Rumor has it that this steam operated adjustable wrench was made by a steampunk airship apprentice engineer. It is quite a revolutionary concept for a very well used tool such as a 12-inch crescent wrench. It brought mobility and efficiency and put true power into the term power tools. The Steam powered 12” Adjustable Wrench has all the components to actually work. Well somewhat, maybe. Boiler, fuel system, control box, cylinder, gears and a really neat smoke stack. This sculpture also comes with several parts and pieces that may have been in the same shop that the wrench was used at. I believe that it was one of Captain Mortimus B. Bland tools that an apprentice engineer created to work on the airship Demistictus. The Steam Powered 12” Adjustable Wrench measurements are: Length 15”, Width 4.5” and Height of 9.5”. The piece is signed and dated. It all started when I acquired a used pickup truck. In the bed there was a rusted adjustable wrench just lying there innocently. When I first picked it up I knew it was special. And so began the project that you see now. As always when the inspiration envelops me I start grabbing miscellaneous parts to see what will go together to bring the vision into reality. The process includes all sorts of measuring, drawing, modification, fabrication and a whole lot of trial and error until finally the vision exists.I love working with found and salvaged parts and pieces and creating a plausibly working machine or creature. And of course a story about it's origins begins to come to life. I enjoy making my pieces look like they are antiques. As if at one time they were used in another place and time. Needless to say this is a one of a kind unique creation and as with all my work I pay great attention to detail and the quality of the work.
